Fan Pier

Boston, Massachusetts

Overview

This 17-story, 310,000-square-foot building adds to the aesthetic of Boston’s Fan Pier neighborhood with a distinctive curvaceous façade comprised of faceted glass. The commercial tower features tiered terrace levels on the 13th floor and rooftop, with sweeping views of Boston’s harbor. Vulcraft’s CJ-Series joists, along with Vulcraft's composite floor deck, was the right solution for this project. This system was specified due to the advantages of composite joists, which include longer spans with shallower floor heights, wider spacing and factory supplied Vierendeel openings, to allow for MEP to pass through the joists. Flush Frame connections were used on Vulcraft’s CJ-Series joists so that the spandrel girder and girder beams could be composite, and they allowed joists to be dropped in place instead of snaking them to connect to beams – saving 25% erection time per joist. These Flush Frame connections also helped meet the project’s stringent vibration requirements. To find out more about Vulcraft’s composite joists and composite floor deck, click on the links below.
